Informative and interactive displays. Tickets are cheap and allow you to enjoy the historical castle and it's beautiful surrounding garden
Amazing Japanese castle. Worthy to take a look.
Beautiful castle and Gardens. Would be stunning in Spring and Autumn especially.
You can enter and enjoy some attractions inside. I tried wearing the princess cloths anyways, its so beautiful
Interesting place with lots of interaction games. Nice historical place.
A quiet and beautiful place to visit with an aura of peacefulness.
We had some time to kill waiting to collect our hire car, and this was a short stroll away. So glad we did - they've done a great job of restoration and is a great legacy for the locals. Great visit and we would recommend.
It’s not busy and not crowded by tourists. Very calm and peaceful. They charge 350 yen to go inside the castle and you have limited access. You can go up to 5 floors. Inside the castle, there is museum with history about Kokura castle and samurai ( basically japan history of Kitakyushu.) Great places to take a picture.
It was closed by the time I went but still I had a good time in there.
The ticker for castle, memory museum and garden was only 800 yen. The castle is beautiful and views on the top are amazing. There are many activities for children. Elevators between all the floors.
Reached here in the evening before sunset. Nice and calm environment, great for walking around enjoying the late autumn Japanese garden.
Try visit it on night too. U will enjoy totally different view and experience than noon.
For one time visit it is good....
Nice view from riverwalk mall balcony, small castle but you can get vibe of Japanese castle
IG worth place! i find it so relaxing
Evethough is not the original built castle(reconstructed at 1959) but it is still a magnificent place to visit, it's museum contain some nice exhibit to show you its history too.
absolutely beautiful place. cheap entry fee and super fun inside the temple.
Good place to visit between stops. Close to train station.
Even though the castle had been rebuilt, its amazing
Beautiful and relaxing place! I visit there almost everyday!
very interesting and fun castle to visit, traveler friendly and interactive, inspiring and learn much history
Had a great experience today at Kokura castle. It's not a long walk from Kokura station and there are some interesting architecture along the walk to the castle. It's around ¥700 to see the castle, the gardens and the museum. All very interesting. The history is probably more suited to adults and kids with an interest in that area. There are some interactive activities, like dressing up and using a play sword for a photo. Pretty easy to do as there was no crowds today. Don't go at the end of the day, allow plenty of time. After you've finished, there's a big shopping centre across the road to find food, or do a bit of shopping.
I went to Kokura Castle on a rainy day, and so there were not many people around. The castle is a reproduction, as it says on my guidemap. But it's still a very pretty little castle. On the shrine gardens is a huge stone ( boulder ) which was once part of the original castle's wall. Probably a nice place to see, in better weather. Just a 5 minute walk from Kokura Station.
Good interactive activities in side, nice introduction of histories.
Didn't know 巖流島 from Kokura, known this from Takehiko Inoue, Amazing
The castle is famous of there. In the casle, there are many watching points. beside it, shopping mall is located. however garden beside castle was so so
Kokura Castle (小倉城, Kokura-jō) in Kitakyushu, Japan was built by Hosokawa Tadaoki in 1602. It was the property of the Ogasawara clan (from Harima) between 1632 and 1860.The castle burnt down from a fire in 1837, with parts of it rebuilt in 1839.[1] The castle burnt down again in 1866 during the war between the Kokura and Chōshū clans.[2]Mori Ōgai was based at the castle at the turn of the 20th century, when it was a military base. The keep was reconstructed in 1959, and the castle was fully restored in 1990. The Seichō Matsumoto museum and castle garden were opened in 1998. The old Japanese-style pre-Brunton lighthouse from Shirasu is in the castle grounds.
Really nice castle not like Osaka but nice as well.
Absolutely stunning sight to see. The beautiful Castle on the outside is just as great on the inside. If you’re in the neighborhood you should definitely check it out!
Quite beautiful but beside is a office and mall
Beautiful traditional castle in the park. Also elevator is available to go to the top observation deck.
Very interesting place to visit. Knowing some Japan history and have fun meanwhile.
Modern rebuilt castle with museum inside. Worth the admission fee of 350 yen per adult.
Nice place to go and quite easy access thanks to the signs in English language on the street. I definitely recommend to visit this place. For now (Oct. 2018) the inside of the castle is closed but the garden is nice and the entrance is free. I also advise not to limit yourselves to the gardens but to go the the neighbouring shrine.Put the Kokura castle on your to do list !
No need to pay to enter this castle, yet you need to keep the environment clean. Visitors are allowed to strolling around and enjoying the view around the castle. When I visited this place, there was a traditional event inside this castle, such a precious moment for me.
A very small rebuilt castle with air-conditioned. Limited angle for taking nice outlook of this castle. It's suggested to plan for 15 to 30 minutes for visiting this place.
Lot of beautiful spots to take pictures. Near the castle they also have cafe, Japanese garden and shrine.
Rebuilt castle but well designed with interesting guides and good scenes.
A decent park with historical castle. It's really a pity it was during construction the time we visited. Or else it would make a perfect visit!
Nice place to roam around, castle had 5 level each depicting other view of history. Many photographic spots and the entry fees are club with garden. One can enjoy the 15 minutes video of the castle history and uts makeover. Then children can try the traditional games, even fight with the hero, traditional dress photoshoot is free inside the museum. Must have with family and friends while you are around the KOKURA specially at the time of cherry blossom.
Walking distance from the main train station, A good way to spend an hour while you wait to check-in to your hotel
this place is beautifull, iconic.there is a foodcourt in the backside of the castle. hot takoyaki is good to be eaten under sakura fall during hanami.
Awesome! Classic Japanese Castle. You can have a great view of Kokura at the top.
If Oriental Castles are your taste, you don't want to miss Kokura Castle. It's a great place to take pictures of and walk around much like the other castles of Japan. I was enthused by anything in particular that seemed outstandingly different than other castles, but it's a good one to cross off the list. Also, of course it's a great place for first time travelers to Japan to observe.
As a person who has been to several Japan castle, Kokura Castle felt more like a garden than a Castle as it is too small.
Kokura castle locates on the opposite side of river city which is a big shopping mall. Good location. The castle was renewed and easy to assess. There is lift in the castle take you from 1/f to 5/f. However, there is not much original material of castle is used, it is more like a modern museum showing the model of castle. It is recommended for family trip as there are games for kids.
There is an entry fee to enter Kokura Castle. Actually, taking photos and viewing the Kokura Castle from outside is already good enough. Kokura Castle is just located beside Riverwalk Kitakyushu mall.
With some funny games to attract kids
I always wanted to visit a traditional castle in Japan, but Fukuoka's castle ruins cannot really compare with this masterpiece.Kitakyushu's city center itself is not so appealing but the caste definitely makes up for it. Really cool!!
Lots of amazing history and fantastic views at the top. The english information is well written and understandable. Great for English-speaking tourists
